Proposed alterations and extensions at Glencairn, Port Lewaigue, Maughold.
This proposed single storey dwelling is located on the Maughold coastline with panoramic views from the rear of the property out to Port Lewaigue and to Ramsey Bay when looking north. The client brief incorporated internal alterations, layout changes and extensions, allowing improved room arrangements and open plan living to take full advantage of the rear coastal views.
An extension was built off the rear of the property, to replace a small lean-to glass Conservatory, and to provide open plan Kitchen and Family Room living accommodation. A fully glazed rear wall was proposed, set between a steel frame, with central sliding doors leading out onto a rear raised patio area created using gabion baskets filled with traditional stone.
The gable wall of the existing rear Bedroom was temporarily propped, removed and replaced with a new steel frame and a fully glazed gable installed to provide a new Lounge area to the rear of the property and linked with the proposed open plan rear extension giving full views out to sea. The rest of the property was altered both internally and externally to provide much improved Bedroom accommodation.
The external finishes were a mixture of high quality timber cladding and through colour external render system with aluminium guttering and rainwater pipes.
Indicated are the ground floor plan layout, rear and side elevations and some on-site external/internal photographs.
Completed Autumn 2012.
